- SPACE STATION FREEDOM
-
-
- I wanted you to read this first for the following reason: Space Station
- Freedom is NOT a single object. It is made of multiple objects that are
- parented together. I made it this way in case you don't like the way I
- designed it. You can move the modules around and re-parent them in a
- configuration you like without having to make your own station (a
- time-consuming task). To move the station as a single entity, select the
- object titled 'scaffolding' and move it; everything else is parented to it
- and will move with it.
-
- The station has two solar cell arrays that are parented to the scaffolding.
- These can change heading, pitch and bank (for tracking the sun). For the
- best looking results change only the bank.
-
- There is an observation module on the station. I designed it such that you
- can go INSIDE and look OUTSIDE through the windows. Between each window is a
- surface that has been defined as an observation module instrument panel.
- There are eleven of them (if you are inside the observation module they
- start with #1 and increase counter-clockwise). For my personal use I
- framegrab oscilloscopes and power supplies and map these down to some of the
- surfaces; it works well for me.
-
-
-
- The station has two moveable robotic arms. The first one is located on the
- scaffolding. The outer arm is parented to the middle arm which is parented
- to the robotic arm. Each arm piece can change heading, pitch and bank. This
- arm is parented to the arm pivot. For now the arm pivot is parented to the
- scaffolding, but you can move it to another position if you wish and
- re-parent it there. The second robotic arm is parented to the JAPAN module
- (named such because the module has the Japan flag on it). It, too, has an
- inner, middle and outer segment parented to the next piece and each can
- change heading, pitch and bank. This arm does not leave the module (but
- could if you REALLY wanted to re-parent it somewhere else).
-
- There is a storage module located on the end of the JAPAN module. There are
- four storage containers parented to it and each can be taken out. There is
- also a parabolic antenna capable of three degrees of rotation parented to
- the storage module.
-
-
- In case you haven't found it yet, there are actually two scene files and two
- rendered images with this upload. These scenes are titled Space Station
- Freedom and Space Station Freedom & Earth. In SSF&E there is the station
- described above plus the earth with clouds and the moon. The clouds are
- parented to the earth and move if you reposition the earth. The heading,
- pitch and bank can be changed on the earth, clouds and moon.
-
-
- The two images are in a JPEG format and show you what each scene looks like.
- (I think each was rendered in a high-res mode.) They are titled Freedom1.jpg
- (which shows Space Station Freedom) and Freedom2.jpg (which shows Space
- Station Freedom and Earth).
